چکیده

It is _known _that internal stress concentrations can give rise to microcracks which then grow when the str~cture 1s subJected to external forces. It has also been found that the velocity'of sound is altered as ~t propagates through a region of stress. In this paper we discuss a technique called ComputerAsslsted Tomography (~AT) and describe ~n application that provides pictures of stress fields. We report the results of both s1mulated and exper1mental models used to evaluate the technique. We conclude that the CAT approach has great potential for locating and mapping residual stress in metals.

Stress Effect on Ultrasonic Wave Propagation through the Solid - Solid and Liquid - Solid Plane Interface

Ultrasonic wave propagation in prestressed materials has been studied extensively in the last 40 years. Most of this work was concentrated on the effect of stress on the velocities of different types of ultrasonic waves in homogeneaus materials. Actually stresses affect not only wave velocities but also the boundary conditions at the interface. Many practical applications of ultrasonic stress c...

Design of Ultrasonic Transducer MEMS Model for Distance Measurement using Multiphysics

The technique in artificial ultrasonic transducer using electronics is very bulky and power hungry. We switched over to ultrasonic Micro-Electronics Mechanical Systems (MEMS) which have shown significant importance for miniaturized mechanical system, based on silicon technology. MEMS based acoustic sensing transducers commonly employ the piezo-electric technology to interpret the received ultra...

Stress-dependent ultrasonic scattering in polycrystalline materials.

Stress-dependent elastic moduli of polycrystalline materials are used in a statistically based model for the scattering of ultrasonic waves from randomly oriented grains that are members of a stressed polycrystal. The stress is assumed to be homogeneous and can be either residual or generated from external loads. The stress-dependent elastic properties are incorporated into the definition of th...

Measuring of Residual Stress in TIG Welding of the 304 Stainless Steel by Ultrasonic Method

In this research, the effect of different welding parameters on residual stress and microstructure of the weld region, as well as the comparison of two methods of measuring residual stress using critical fracture longitudinal wave method and preformation method have been investigated. For this purpose, the taguchi DOE methodology is used as a statistical method to optimize four parameters of pu...
